Margo Van Staaveren Named Winemaker at Beringer as Winery Eyes 150th Anniversary
Veteran winemaker and Napa Valley trailblazer steps into a new leadership role at one of California’s most historic wineries
When it comes to experience, it’s hard to top Margo Van Staaveren.
The new Director of Winemaking at Beringer Vineyards has 45 harvests under her belt. She takes the helm of an estate that has experienced twice as many harvests, but still crafts high quality wines of distinction from Napa Valley.
Over the past several months, she’s worked closely with the vineyard, cellar, and direct-to-consumer teams, calling them “impressively dedicated and collaborative.”
“As Beringer is on the cusp of its 150th anniversary in 2026,” Van Staaveren said. “I’m honored help steward the incredible vineyards and legacy that make Beringer so enduring.”
Van Staaveren will continue in her broader role as Director of Winemaking, North Coast, for Treasury Wine Estates’ luxury portfolio, which includes Beaulieu Vineyard, Frank Family Vineyards and Stags’ Leap Winery. Her promotion is both a nod to her experience and a strategic move for the future of the Beringer brand.
“Margo’s talent lies in her ability to blend heritage with innovation,” said Matt Johnson, Chief Winemaker and Vice President of Winery Operations at Treasury Americas. “She inspires everyone around her.”
Founded in 1876, Beringer is California’s oldest continuously operating winery. Known for its historic St. Helena estate and benchmark Napa Valley wines, the winery remains a symbol of tradition, hospitality and forward-thinking winemaking.
For Van Staaveren, the appointment is more than a title—it’s a chance to honor nearly 150 years of Napa history, one barrel at a time.
