Luce 2022 Marks Three Decades of Innovation and Identity in Montalcino
Luce 2022 reflects a legacy built on contrasts — elegance and power, patience and progress.
The world took notice when Luce made its debut in 1993.
Hailing from the hills of Montalcino, the bold blend of Sangiovese and Merlot ushered in a new chapter in Tuscan winemaking. On full display was the proud Italian winemaking tradition and an embrace of innovation and the promise of the future.
Thirty vintages later, Luce 2022 pays homage to the legacy while venturing into new territory as the legend of Tenuta Luce grows.
“Since the very beginning, our philosophy has been to bring out the very best from our vineyards without compromising on quality,” winemaker Alessandro Marini said. “That principle hasn’t changed, but the tools and precision we use to achieve it have.”
Luce has long been defined by contrasts: the elegance of Sangiovese paired with the plush richness of Merlot, the patience of tradition balanced with the curiosity of experimentation. Over the decades, certain vintages have come to symbolize the estate’s ability to capture both the challenges and triumphs of Montalcino’s climate.
The 2022 vintage now joins that lineage. Marked by heat and drought followed by timely rains, the growing season required nimble decision-making in the vineyard.
“In such a warm year, preserving freshness was essential,” Marini said. “Merlot required close attention to avoid over-ripening and the development of plum or fig aromas that could mask the expression of the terroir. By carefully managing these factors, we were able to maintain balance and highlight the unique character of the wine in this vintage.”
