In 1973 it was a bold move.

Single-vineyard wines from the Russian River Valley, an unheralded hamlet in Sonoma County, were far from being in demand.

But, there was Davis Bynum, who in 1975 released the first single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the Russian River Valley. In the years that followed, the Russian River Valley would blossom into a haven for Burgundian varietals.

The 50th Anniversary Wine Collection from Davis Bynum is a trio of small-lot wines sourced from legendary vineyards that shaped both Bynum’s early years and Sonoma County’s winemaking reputation.

"This collection is a true love letter to the Russian River Valley and to Davis Bynum’s enduring vision," said Greg Morthole, Winemaker for Davis Bynum Winery in a press release. "We crafted these wines to showcase the incredible sense of place and history found in these vineyards. They are elegant, expressive, intentionally made wines, representing the pinnacle of the Russian River Valley’s legacy."

Each bottle in the collection is a nod to a vineyard and a grower relationship that helped define the Davis Bynum story. The Dutton Origin Chardonnay comes from the original 1967 Wente clone vines at Dutton Home Ranch. It was the first time Davis Bynum has accessed this fruit. Only six bottles were made.
