It was a charmed growing season for Alto Adige and Val Venosta.

Bright summer skies welcomed cyclists and hikers to Alto Adige this summer.

But, traversing the Italian region’s alpine trails this year wasn’t all that took place in the shadow of the mountains. Those same summer skies nurtured grapes winegrowers say are among the healthiest and most balanced in recent memory.

Due to steady conditions which highlighted the 2025 vintaage; generous sunshine on the valley slopes, the Dolomites shielding vines from harsh weather and no major disease or hail pressure optimism is plentiful around the region this is shaping up as a year to remember.

“The grapes are looking good,” said Andreas Kofler, President of Consorzio Alto Adige Wines.

After the trials and tribulations of 2024 when spring frosts, hailstorms and uneven ripening took its toll, this year, the story was different. By June, vineyard crews had already shaped the region’s famously tidy rows through careful pruning, laying the groundwork for uniform growth. July brought cooler temperatures that briefly worried growers, but a warm, dry August pushed ripening forward with energy and concentration.

Despite the cooler midsummer, harvest arrived ahead of schedule. Harvest started in the final week of August, about a week earlier than average, and has continued smoothly across the valleys and hillsides.
